Elementary Kayak Course - HK China Canoe Union 1, 2 and 3-star courses

3 days total (7 hours per day)

-        This 3-day course (spread over 2 weekends) will be taught by HK Canoe Union-qualified and registered instructors, in accordance with the syllabus of the HKCU’s 1-star, 2-star and 3-star kayak courses.
-          Participants who successfully complete the course will receive the HKCU’s 1, 2 and 3-star award (equivalent to the Elementary Level Award), and may proceed to Proficiency Level courses. 
-          Holders of the 3-star award may rent club boats for practice in groups of no less than 2.  
-          At the end of the course participants may enroll in instructor-led “Fun Day” short trips around the Hebe Haven and Trio Beach area. 
-          The course is designed for beginners and will take place in sheltered waters, in single sit-in kayaks.  Paddles and PFDs (personal flotation devices) will be provided.   
-          Participants must be 14 years or older, and able to swim 50m without flotation.    
-          Priority will be given to participants who enroll in all 3 days.
-          Minimum of 6 and maximum of 8 students per class to one instructor.
-          Participants will need to pay separately for the HKCU’s logbook ($30) and award certificates ($45 each).
-          Courses will be conducted in Cantonese and English.
-          Special rates for NGOs and full time school groups – please enquire.

1-Star training  (1 day)  
-          Introduction to personal gear, buoyancy aid, whistle signals
-          Lifting and carrying the kayak, launching and disembarking
-          Basic strokes : forward, backward and sweep strokes, stopping the boat, rafting-up, capsize training and emptying boats
Course Fee : $500 Members / $550 Non-members 

2-star training (1 day)
-          Introduction to kayaking gear – kayak, paddle and buoyancy aid
-          Weather knowledge
-          Solo lifting and carrying the kayak
-          Stern rudder
-          Raft manoeuvres
-          “HI rescue”
Course Fee : $500 Members / $550 Non-members  

3-star training (1 day)
-          Kayaking safety
-          Draw strokes, support strokes, clearing the kayak near shore
-          “X-rescues”
Course Fee : $500 Members / $550 Non-members
